ABOUT LOVE & COMPANIONSHIP: While living in Iceland during the summer of 1972, I learned about the Icelandic custom of naming the child on its first birthday, after it has had a chance to display something of its personality. No doubt, the custom stems in part from high infant mortality in harder times.
Good morning, Baby
Did you sleep alright?
I woke and fixed your covers
In the middle of the night
That smile upon your face
Tells me I'm doin' something right
It's so nice to find you by me in the morning
Good morning, Baby
I can see what's on your mind
Your hunger is insatiable
Your taste so unrefined
And I really can't deny you
It would be much less than kind
So I'll send you satisfied into the morning
BRIDGE
I asked for you from heaven
You must have come from there
For there's sunlight in your laughing eyes
And stardust in your hair
Good morning, Baby
I wish I knew your game
But in time I'll know your qualities
Which to praise, which to blame
And as a gift on your first birthday
I will give you your own name
Then I won't have to call you Baby
I won't have to call you Baby
I won't have to call you Baby
In the morning
