EN QUE NOS PARECEMOS
Traditional Spanish

Rosi Amador vocal Brian Amador classical guitar
While traveling in Peru, I found this poetic lovesong on a tape I bought by the Andean folk group, 'Quilapayun'. Whereas their version is rendered by two men, I felt the delicate passion expressed in the lyric would be best served by a male/female duet. Miguel Ponce, my Peruvian friend living in Japan, speculates that the song may date back to Medieval Spain.

En qué nos parecemos tú y yo a la nieve
Tú en lo blanca y galana,
yo en deshacerme

A los árboles altos los mueve el viento
Y a los enamorados el pensamiento

(Translation)
How do we resemble, you and I, the snow?
You with your whiteness and demeanor
I, with my melting away

The tall trees are moved by the wind
And lovers by the thought
