The
Burmese chose democracy
Led bravely by Aung San Suu Kyi
But SLORC, instead, has them enslaved
Oh, when shall we see Burma saved?
The labor force is labor forced
The ultimate in work outsourced
With blood and bones the roads are paved
Oh, when shall we see Burma saved?
Oil’s the global drug of choice
Addiction drowns the people’s voice
Where mineral wealth is whored and craved
Oh, when shall we see Burma saved?
While corporate greed ignores the cries
The bodies fall and profits rise
Stockholders dance on Burmese graves
Oh, when shall we see Burma saved?
To Union Oil: Dear CEO,
Please let the Burmese people know
Their human rights have just been waived
Oh, when shall we see Burma saved?
The time to act has nearly passed
When freedom can prevail at last
Each day makes more entrenched the knaves
Oh, when shall we see Burma saved?
The so-called leaders of the world won’t act
As though bound by some unspoken pact
When the people rise to rant and rave
Perhaps we’ll then see Burma saved
Should you be left with any doubt
I wrote these words and sing them out
To tell the world how you behaved
And one day we’ll see Burma saved!
I’m gonna tell the world how you behaved
And one day we’ll see Burma saved!
